At a loss (for words)

So, after a week where I've determinedly not been thrown off course by the scale, where I've cycled c45 miles, where I've done 2 long walks, where I've done the Circuit of Hell (only twice), where I've kept a grip on what I've eaten and substituted to cover any mistakes, in that week I've...... put on 2lbs.

I don't know what to say.

Say...OK, well, I'm off on holiday! And aren't I bl**dy fantastic for doing ALL THAT exercise.

That's heroic. The weight loss will come. Honest.

Have you read Potatoes not Prozac? I am sure you recommended it to me. I just read that and thought of you, too. Could it help???

Seriously, please, please, please congratulate yourself on an amazing fitness job well done. And have a GREAT holiday.

Don't give up!

Big kiss.

Well, I know what to say: Get Off the Scale. You're clearly doing good things for yourself and being very healthy. Why depress yourself with "what the scale said"!?! I think you should not weigh in for 2weeks, keep doing the exercise and eating well. Also, you may be losing inches, building muscle and tone, and some other good stuff. The scale is not always the best measure of your success! I've been putting on weight / maintaining for about a month, but am getting looser and looser in my clothes. For years I have done the big diet surge, get pissed with the scale, go back to overeating thing. Done now, thank you very much. Even if the scale says 250 lbs next year this time I know I will be a lot "lighter" in myself, a lot more fit, look a lot better and most definitely feel a lot better. Isn't that what REALLY counts? Keep going girl! Don't give up on yourself...

Scales can be awful things. I've been in exactly your spot -- it's insanely frustrating. I hope look forward and focus on your hols, have a great time and keep on with the exercise as much as you can. Screw the scale -- it's a device of psychological terror.

Hi Peridot,

I'd like to ask you a question and I hope it doesn't annoy you -- I'm genuinely curious b/c I too suffer from what I think is a barely-breathing metabolism and I'm struggling to find ways to rev it up. Have you ever thought that you might be eating too little right now, what with all the walking/cycling that you are doing? I'm not suggesting that you are, I'm just wondering how you got to your calorie count versus exercise ratio. I'm constantly trying to find the 'sweet spot' in my eating/work out ratio, but honest to god I think it changes every week!

Anyway...if you don't mind sharing a bit of your inner reasoning on calorie counts, I'd really like to know how you got to your number. No worries tho' if that's not a question you feel like answering.
Cheers,
Ish

Hi Peridot,

Got your answer to my question on my blog -- thanks! Wow...I've never in my life been able to eat 600 cals a day. I'd think it would screw with one's metabolism. Yikes! I'm glad for your sake that you're off that now. Good luck on the vacation.
Cheers,
Ish
